What it means to prioritize your mental health? !
As you embark in your journey to building a healthy self-esteem, you will realize that it also demands emotional balance and resilience, which can be sign of a positive mindset. In fact, self-esteem and mental health are closely connected because how we view ourselves is highly impacted on how we feel.
Mental health refers to the health of our feelings and emotions as they are the vehicle that connect to our mind. Our emotions and feelings are information that can help us understand ourselves, what going on around us and help us navigate our life with more clarity and guidance.
When our self-esteem is healthy, it can strengthen our mental resilience, positive outlook on life and improve our overall well-being. Conversely, low self-esteem can contribute to emotional struggles and imbalance, which can increase the risk of mental health issues. Therefore, putting our mental health at the forefront of our daily lives is essential, so we can nurture and maintain it, the best way we can.
Prioritizing our mental health means maintaining a healthy state of being through learning to regulate our emotions, nurturing a positive, hopeful and growth mindset, building a sense of gratitude, and choosing to create our happiness the best ways we can. For instance, on the daily basis, we must keep awareness on things that can negatively impact our emotions, such as environments, people and places. This helps us process the imbalance within us before the energy get stuck. Because when negative emotions are left unprocessed, they can affect our mental health in the long run.
Prioritizing our mental health directly fuels our self-esteem by shifting our internal dialogue away from self-doubt and negativity to self-empowerment and growth. We choose to cultivate empowering and uplifting thoughts for ourselves, which can positively impact our behaviors and actions, thus benefiting our self-esteem. For instance, if we feel ungrateful, like a victim or hopeless, we will more likely have a negative view of ourselves, and the opposite is truth if we develop a mindset of gratitude, hope and growth.
Prioritizing our mental health also means engaging in activities that increase positive energy within us, bring us joy, help us keep learning and growing. When we engage in activities that drain us out of our energy or bring negative emotions, we can feel exhausted and unmotivated to fully engage with life. Therefore, we should try to invest or explore our interests and passions to increase positive energy flow within us. Perhaps, engaging in activity beside our day-to-day work or duties, can help us maintain a balanced lifestyle and mental health by breaking the tension from the demands of our lives.
Mental health also translates to building and nurturing healthy connections that can add positivity to our mental state, bring us good energy, help maintain our peace or help us grow. Vise-versa, we also get to provide the same kind of healthy vibration to others we interact with. We learn to set healthy boundaries for ourselves to protect our energy and space. Because the reality is dealing with other people can be either a healthy or unhealthy source of emotions and energy. Therefore, learning to be discerning in our relationships can be very helpful to our mental health.
Additionally, when we prioritize our mental health, we also learn to develop emotional resilience to bounce back from setbacks without assigning those failures to a lack of personal value. We begin to separate our self-identity from mistakes and rejections, understanding that our true worth comes from the inside and not on things outside of ourselves.
Our mental health can be the mirror to our mind and learning to prioritize and maintain balance can be beneficial to our overall well-being, self-esteem and growth. The goal is to find what works for our individual needs and incorporate it in our daily life.
